In this video, I share my experience of drinking (one can) and unboxing Zevia energy drinks in their well-done factory packaging (shipping option on Amazon) and then measuring my blood to find out if the drink had any significant effect on my blood sugar levels (glucose,) ketones, and overall GKI (see definition below.)
WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS PRODUCT?
Over the past two years, I’ve researched and tried hundreds of different products and have only been basing the glycemic effects on how my body reacts to them (how I physically feel after eating or drinking,) so in this test, I am putting Zevia energy drink to the ultimate challenge with a KETO-MOJO to properly analyze my blood glucose and ketones one hour after drinking one can.
THE TEST PARAMETERS
Short 12-hour fast (overnight), then took a glucose and ketone test in the morning, consumed the Zevia energy drink, waited one hour, and then took another blood glucose and ketones test.

DEFINITION: *GKI – GKI stands for “Glucose Ketone Index.” It is a measurement used to determine the amount of ketones and glucose in your body. Ketones are molecules produced when your body burns fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. The GKI helps assess the ratio between your blood glucose levels and ketone levels, providing an indication of your body’s metabolic state. KETO-MOJO has several status names for the varying levels of GKI; they are defined as follows:
9.0 or greater, Not in ketosis.
This level indicates that you’re not following a keto diet or only recently started.
6.0–9.0, Mild ketosis
Weight loss and optimal health
3.0–6.0, Moderate ketosis
Metabolic conditions like type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, and obesity
1.0–3.0, Therapeutic ketosis
Dietary management/treatment of cancer, neurological diseases, and chronic inflammatory diseases
1.0 or less, Highest degree of therapeutic ketosis
N/A — This level is generally only attainable under strict, medically supervised ketogenic diets
TEST RESULTS
BEFORE:
Glucose: 79 mg/dl
Ketones: 1.3 mmol/L
GKI: 3.3 (“You’re in a moderate level of GKI ketosis,” according to KETO-MOJO)
AFTER (1 hour):
Glucose: 65 mg/dl (-14)
Ketones: 1.6 mmol/L (+3)
GKI: 2.26 (“You’re in a high therapeutic level of ketosis” according to KETO-MOJO)
CONCLUSION
I was surprised by the final test results in that my glucose shifted down by 14 points, and my ketones went up by 3 points. The GKI also indicated an increase from “moderate ketosis” to a “high therapeutic level of ketosis.” Very interesting results… But now my question is, WHAT caused the glucose to drop and ketones to increase? Will need to do more testing to analyze this down the road. Overall Test: PASS True-Keto-Friendly: YES
NOTE: Because I have thousands of online videos and podcasts across many platforms and agencies, I recently started numbering them by Episode, abbreviated by “Ep.,” to differentiate the sequence. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to designate all of them, but hopefully, starting now, it will become easier to differentiate them.
